Sudesh Sharma

About

Pandit Sudesh Sharma was born on 17 January 1965 in Ghaziabad. His home is in Modinagar, and his public life belongs to this town. His father was Late Shri Sompal Sharma. He is married to Anju Sharma, and their sons are Karan Sharma and Arjun Sharma. He went to school in the town that later chose him as chairman and as MLA.

In 1981 he completed high school at an inter college in Modinagar. In 1988 he earned a diploma in civil engineering from M.G. Polytechnic, Hathras. He is a farmer and a politician. The field and the cane crop sit on one side of his life. Roads, buildings, and the work of a town sit on the other. Both are his ground.

From 2007 to 2012 he was chairman of the Modinagar Nagar Palika, the town’s own government. At the 2011 census the municipal board was home to 1,30,325 people, across 26 wards. For five years that chair was his responsibility.

In 2012 Modinagar sent him to Lucknow. He was elected MLA for the Rashtriya Lok Dal with 58,635 votes, a margin of 13,949 over Rajpal Singh of the Bahujan Samaj Party. From March 2012 to March 2017 he was Modinagar’s voice in the 16th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh. Rajpal Singh had held the seat before him. Dr. Manju Shiwach held it after him.

During that term he was a deputy leader in the House and took part in the Assembly’s examination of the Muzaffarnagar riots. In February 2014 he placed before the Assembly the unpaid dues of workers at Modinagar’s closed Modi textile mill. The mills had shut in the 1980s, after employing about twenty thousand people. He told the House that about ₹60 crore was still owed to those workers. He carried a wound of the town into the House.

He has contested Modinagar four times. In 2022 he polled 78,730 votes, 35.31 percent, the largest total of his four elections, and finished second. On 27 November 2022 he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in Meerut. He is a former chairman and a former MLA of this town, and he still stands with its people at public meetings, community honours, and sports fields.
